We are on lockdown and we need to be staying away from each other. So confined to our houses, we inevitably begin look at our surroundings in a different light. I remember as a child when my mum used to spring clean the house from top to bottom at this time of year. So, on lockdown, I wondered about the satisfaction that comes from this task and decided to take a good look in this new and different light at my own surroundings.
Remembering when we used to do this!
okay, maybe not quite ready for brillo pads

New boot rooms,
Utility rooms and laundry rooms can be the hardest working in the house, where the backstage elements of everyday life are hidden from sight. But let’s be honest, when was the last time we took a decent look at them? Possibly when we had just completed the project.
So with new light and needing to do something constructive, I set about some good old fashioned deep cleaning, scrubbing and mopping. Given the current situation, clean cabinets, countertops, and hardware helps keeps any bugs at bay. Plus I actually removed a few of those annoying scuffs that had been niggling at me.
& pantries
(See what I did there?)

The pantry can end up being a hidden space in the kitchen, but that doesn’t mean you should neglect it. Clever storage systems and smart design makes life easier and even grabbing a quick snack rather stylish. But to be totally honest I’m not one for removing every jar and cleaning them every day! Whether you have a walk-in pantry that needs some love or a quirky corner that’s full of ‘stuff’ that you’ve been meaning to do something with for ages, a pantry can be a great way to make best use of space. Rethinking what is already there with a new pair of eyes can be just what’s needed.
So let’s get cracking!
Yes, it’s hard just now. But maybe being forced to spend more time in our homes than we do generally, we are being given a chance to appreciate and love what we have around us just that little bit more. I know I have found that cleaning and moving things around has given me a whole lot of ideas. Life has moved on from when we put in our own kitchen and having a fresh look and think about how we use the space now and how we may use it tomorrow is refreshing. I’m going to take a look at the hallway and bathroom once I’ve worked my way through this lot!
