Thursday and Friday were taken up mainly with electrical work. Thursday was fitting the Hafele lighting strips in the cupboards, the underside of the shelves and preparing them all to be connected to mains power for the second electrical fix. The slight challenge was that without mains power, it’s not possible to test them….
Then Friday came along and first thing in the morning the guys from M Barry Electrical were waiting patiently for me to return from dropping Rufus off at day care – Coffee made they cracked on. It was a very full day for them as they fitted all of the spot lights, all of the new power points. The dishwasher and cooker were connected and powered up and the lighting strips…

So at the end of week 3, we have a lot more detail installed in the kitchen. The appliances are connected, the cooker actually works!!! Most of the lighting strips are functioning, though there are a couple of faults so we need some replacements strips. The power points are installed, the master switches replaced, the spots all work too – it’s great to see how much difference lighting makes to the kitchen.
The worktop looks spectacular, the tiler has been to check he has all he needs for next week. In the coming days we have second fix plumbing, due for Wednesday which again is a lot of work – there are pipes to bring in for the radiator, sink and dishwasher to connect up and the LPG gas system, so we have a working hob. Other tasks next week include making the Hafele lighting system work, finding and fitting the bit from the cooker hood that appears to have vanished! – The cooker hood can then be connected to the outside world. Tiling is pencilled in for Thursday, which will make another big visual change. All of this will then leave us clear for the final decoration along with any last snagging bits and bobs.

The connected cooker means we can heat stuff up without the microwave, which is an absolute joy 🙂 Seeing how the lighting works is making all of the difference. We have developed a sense of anticipation as we feel we are on the home straight now – so are starting to think about which things might go where in our new kitchen – all exciting stuff 🙂
