Back To Work
The holidays are almost over. Bah humbug! The kids aren’t thrilled to be going back to school tomorrow. So to make sure that they have something to look forward to at the end of their lessons, I’ve promised to roast a chicken in the Siemens oven for dinner.
The great thing about a bespoke kitchen is that it’s designed around your family’s specific needs. In our case, that means a kitchen that can accommodate two adults, six children, our muddy Wellingtons, a daft dog and the odd unexpected guest – or six. No surprises then that I designed our kitchen around a massive farmhouse table to fit the eight of us – and not just for those times when we sit down together to eat.
The kitchen is the room where all of the kids will happily congregate. The eldest takes his place at the head of the table with his laptop, while the youngest perches at the other end, humming along to the radio as she colours in. The rest of tribe sit around the table in a companionable silence, tongues peeping out in concentration as they attempt yet another homework sum. I’m reliably informed that the degree to which my kids can concentrate varies in direct proportion to their proximity to the biscuit tin!
