together in perfect harmony
Countryside Kitchens & Interiors was established by Shona and Jerry Ponder in 1980. A husband-and-wife team, they perfectly combine Shona's right-brained creative design skills and Jerry's left-brained technical and management skills. They're supported by highly experienced craftsmen and staff who are equally committed to Countryside's ethos of quality.
Shona studied Interior Design at Napier in Edinburgh, and is the creative partner behind Countryside Kitchens & Interiors. She has been designing kitchens and interiors for over 30 years, and has an unusual gift for ‘seeing’ the finished kitchen, as well as translating each client’s vision and personality into the perfect working kitchen for their needs.
With six children of her own, Shona is passionate about family kitchens as the hub and heart of the home. She also loves entertaining on a large scale, and firmly believes that since family life revolves around the kitchen, it should be both beautiful and practical.
Jerry qualified as a civil engineer, and is the technical partner in the Countryside Kitchens & Interiors team. His methodical mindset makes him an ideal project manager, and an exceptionally safe pair of hands. With 34 years in the industry, he has been accredited by Cardiff University Law School as an expert witness. He has also appeared as an industry expert on TV programmes including BBC Watchdog and Rogue Traders.
Jerry takes Shona’s designs and translates them into photographic quality CAD images of your kitchen, giving you a 3D virtual tour of how it will look. As a seasoned project manager, he oversees the quality of the build, and ensures that installation is smooth and efficient.
In his spare time, Jerry is involved in amateur dramatics, with favourite roles including Captain Mainwaring and the Major in Fawlty Towers. He insists this isn’t typecasting!
Amanda joined the team in 2013, from a background in Fine Art and art therapy. She supports Shona on the design side, and has detailed knowledge of the wide range of products in our showroom. She enjoys sharing her enthusiasm for all facets of interior design, and is an expert in colour and pattern.
Elliot has recently joined the company and has a broad experience of working with our customers and liaising with the various trades. He is involved with all aspects of the design and project management of our kitchens. Whilst Elliot is on site we also have the full time support of Gemma Stephenson who is on hand in the office to assist with any queries you may have.

Rachel, from New Zealand, comes to us with previous experience working with a range of interior design companies. She is responsible for our bespoke cushion making service and has a keen eye for interiors and textiles.
If you are visiting our showroom and the smell of baking greets you at the door, it’s likely Rachel is responsible.
